Is Enlarged Heart Due To Blood Pressure Medications?
Hi, I recently had a chest x-ray at an urgent care clinic, resulting from coughing and wheezing. the x-ray reveled I have an enlarged heart. The physician said, could be the results of taking high blood pressure (high cholesterol)medications, however recommend I see my PCP. I am 58 years old and is a nervous wreck right now!!!
Hello, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. I had gone through the data you have posted. i will come straight to the point, enlarged heart may be due to many reasons and probable cause depends on clinical examination and conformation needs 2 D echo. But if there are no symptoms like shortness of breath while walking, swelling of both legs and clinical examination is normal then it might be because of left ventricular hypertrophy associated with hypertension and not due to hypertension medications. presence of left ventricular hypertrophy in a hypertensive indicate, blood pressure was not tightly regulated. left ventricular hypertrophy is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diasbility. treatment is strict BP control, take meds given by your doctor for controlof hypertension, avoid pickles, decrease salt content in diet, avoid smoking and alcohol if any and do drisk walking daily if possible. hope this helps..
