Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently got the Mirena within the last month and erythema nodosum developed. I was diagnosed with this years ago when I was taking birth control pills. When I stopped the pills erythema nodosum stopped as well. Can Mirena be a side effect of this and if so, should I expect it to last the entire time I have the mirena?
Hi welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for trusting us to solve your query. If such a patient comes to my clinic, I would first confirm the diagnosis. Hence I would like to ask you how did you confirm this time that it is erythema nodosum? Has it been examined by a healthcare professional? Erythema nodosum can occur due to a variety of causes and Mirena is one unlikely cause. Most common cause is bacterial infection like Streptococcus. Do write to us for any other queries. Wishing you good health! Regards, Dr. Anuja
