Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Excessive Bloating Normal While Having Kidney Stones?
Is it normal to bloat significantly while dealing with kidney stones? Been to ER 6 days ago, diagnosed with kidney stones, sent home with pain meds and Flomax. Stones are still rolling around causing pain, 2 days ago bloating started, not constipated.
Kidney stones do not generally cause stomach bloating but the medications you are using for pain may affect the stomach.
Ibuprofen and other medications in its group may cause gastritis and stomach irritation which may cause you to feel bloated. To prevent a serious complication such as a peptic ulcer, you will need to take pain medications after food and you may also take Omeprazole 40 mg 30 minutes before breakfast for the time you use pain killers.
If you notice that the bloating is not better or if you notice any worsening you will need to talk to your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
