Is Excessive Drooling A Symptom Of Stroke?

I have pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and am on several medications (Adempas, Letiris, Tyvaso-an inhaler, water pills/potassium). I just recently restarted back taking the adempas & am being monitored by a nurse, bi-weekly ( to retitrate me by keeping check on my blood pressure & making sure I don t have bleeding side effects--which was the reason I d been taken off of adempas for a couple months. I also am supposed to be on a c-pap nightly, but haven t done so in over 8 months. My concern is, for the past few weeks when I go to bed nightly, I sleep with my mouth open along with excessive drooling!! A friend mentioned this may be a sign of a stroke? Also, I m also supposed to be taking Xarelto-- per my physician, but due to unaffordabilty & bleeding episodes I haven t been taking them (though I received some samples recently from my doctor & will restart them today or tomorrow). Is this excessive drooling a sign of a stroke?? And what is your advice?

Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, though drooling can be normal variant but facial muscles weakness can also cause the same. However for muscle to be this weakness, it will express during wakefulness as well and should be appreciated too but if not then likelihood of a repeat stroke is less likely.

Xeralto should be started after consulting your primary care physician once bleeding risk has settled. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
