Is Exercising Safe After Taking Dayquil?

This morning I took some Dayquil because of a mild sore throat and congestion, nothing major. I am planning to workout today though and was curious as to what I should avoid at the gym or if I should stick with cardio etc. also, could I still take preworkout or should I avoid that all together ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It's not safe to exercise while on Dayquil. Dayquil contains acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Taking decongestants like phenylephrine may increase your heart rate and blood pressure, which could put you at a higher risk of stroke or other cardiovascular issues. So it’s probably best to take a few days off while taking Dayquil.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
