Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Extreme Elevation In BP And Heart Rate A Concern?
I have been sick and in the hospital for a week been out for 5 days i had asthmatic attack and pneumonia since then i have quit smoking and my blood pressure has went up to 143/94 heart rate 125 to 135 i am worried is there a reason i should be worried is this high
At the outset I would like to know what all medicines you had taken for asthma and pneumonia. If your doctor has given you a salbutamol group of drugs for asthma then high pulses and BP might be related to medicine. Another possibility is low oxygen level due to inability to breath in might be related to high pulse and BP due to sympathetic overstimulation.
Yet another possibility could be thyroid disorder or heart disease. Here, I would advise you for a battery of investigation like CBC, liver function test, ESR and thyroid function test and an EKG. In my opinion you should avoid stress and anxiety, just relax, take deep breaths or deep breathing exercises.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question I will be happy to help you.
Best wishes, Dr. B R Hudda
