Is Filaria Contagious ?
is filaria contagious ? my sister aged about 40 plus has a filaria and she suffers during the month of Jan/feb every year with severe pain and swelling of legs. she is being administered medicine regularly. but would like to know if this disease is contagious to others in the family. particularly for children aged about 9 and 12 years old? if so what should be done to prevent it? is there any preventive medicine that could be taken by others in the family. kindly advise.

Filariasis spreads by the bite of culex mosquito.
Mosquito control measures prevent spread of malaria from one person to another.
administration of single dose of Albendazole and DEC or Albendazole and Ivermectin annually prevents the spread of infection.
