Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i just had robotic hysterectomy last june 5 with salphingectomy. i had pregnancy induced dvt in 1998 & was on lovenox treatment for a month post partum. after all the testings came back (-), i stopped all treatments & have been okay since. I ve traveled internationally several times with my support stocking since. after june 5, i had been on 40mg qd of lovenox until Sunday & my PMD have added 5 more days since we are flying internationally this Monday June 22. How safe is this regimen? Would you recommend otherwise?
Since you are prone to deep vein thrombosis, during long hours in flight it can precipitate DVT again. therefore the medication Lovenox (enoxaparin) a blood thinner has been given. during flight hours kindly walk around every two hours and exercise your legs to improve pumping of blood back to the heart from the veins in lower limb.
The regimen seems fine and will prevent any episodes of DVT due to long flight hours. However kindly consult a physician regarding advise for life long anticoagulants suitable for long term usage like Aspirin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Riyanka Chail, General & Family Physician
