Hi, my partner suffers with Cholesteatoma. Just lately he has had trouble keeping his body temperature. One minute he is cold then the next he's boiling hot. A few times now he has suffered flu like symptoms. Is this normal with the above mentioned condition
Hello! I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Cholesteatoma is a serious but treatable ear condition. It is an abnormal skin growth in the middle ear behind the eardrum . Cholesteatoma might cause recurrent infection of the ear and the symptoms you described (oscillations in body temperature ) might due to ear infection.
Usually cholesteatoma doesn't cause flu like symptoms. It might have been a flu or cold causing these symptoms.
The treatment of choice for Cholesteatoma is microsurgery removal of the mass, unless the person with cholesteatoma is extremely ill with other medical conditions and then conservative therapy is prescribed. The ear surgeon then has to plan the type of surgery necessary to remove the tumor completely. I suggest to consult an ENT specialist, get examined and get treated to prevent further complications.
Hope my answer has helped. Take care
