Is Fluctuation In Body Temperature And Sweating Due To Ear Infection?
My daughter was diagnosed with an ear infection 3 days ago. She’s been on amoxicillian since then. Her fever was 102.9-103.7 so the Dr had be rotate Tylenol and Motrin. Last night I checked her temp in the middle of the night and found it at 95.4. I bundled her up and layer blankets and slept with her. It slowly came up to 97 over 4 hours. When she woke for the day it was 99-100. No fever through out the day. I gave one dose of Tylenol an hour before bed because she kept crying and pulling her ear. Now her body temp is 96. She is also sweating. Is this typical for infections? Do I need to take her to the ER?
Any active infection or abcess in the body may cause a fever with swinging nature that fluctuates within a day. The fever will settle once active infection responds to antibiotics. Antibiotics usually take 24-48 hours for their effect being seen clinically, however if despite 48 hours there is no improvement or the fever still spikes then rotation of antibiotics and proper ENT examination are warranted.
