Is Flying Safe After A Leg Surgery?

Hello, I fractured my tibia and had surgery on 23rd May, I have a plate and screws and was in a cast for 6.5 weeks. I had a follow up appointment on Fri 8th July and the Xray showed the bone growth to be slow, surgeon gave the okay for a walking boot to be fitted but NWB for a further 6 weeks. I am supposed to be flying to Thailand on 13th August for 14 nights. that will be another 5 weeks. My surgeon said I would be good to fly but to be honest I was a bit upset that the bone growth was slow. I am worried about going on holiday, about the flight etc. What do you think?

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi,

Taking a short flight for 2 or 3 hours with compression stockings is unlikely to cause any adverse event. Please discuss with your doctor if you intend to fly long distances.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Vivek Chail, Radiologist
