Is Food Poisoning Making My Stomach Upset?

I woke with a solid stomach feeling and nausea. Shortly after that I had a bowel movement similar to diarrhoea. Went to work where I had a repeat bowel movement of the same kind, and starting feeling chronic fatigue. I since went home where I slept for two hours, woke up nauseous but haven't been able to have another bowel movement nor vomit. I am shivery and clammy with burning eyes. Is it food poisoning or some sort of gastroenteritis?

Thanks.

Hello, thank you for putting your trust in our site, my name is Dr.Soliman and I will be glad to answer your question.

the repeated bowel movements (diarrhea) and the feeling of nausea along with chronic fatigue, all suggest that you have a food poisoning , and that explains the shivery feeling and the burning sensation in your eyes that is actually a low grade fever and dehydration due to loss of water and electrolytes by repeated diarrhea.

Treatment of food poisoning may include:
-Replacement of lost fluids. Fluids and electrolytes — minerals such as sodium, potassium and calcium that maintain the balance of fluids in your body — lost to persistent diarrhea need to be replaced.
-Antibiotics: You may need antibiotics if you have certain kinds of bacterial food poisoning and your symptoms are severe. Food poisoning caused by listeria needs to be treated with intravenous antibiotics during hospitalization. The sooner treatment begins, the better.
-Anti diarrheal drugs: loperamide (Imodium A-D) or bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol).
