Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my daughter s father told us a few years ago that he may have cancer. Today I found out he is in ICU with jaundice and complication. Researching Jaundice on WebMD, some of the causes are gallbladder, can become a complication of severe jaundice, Our daughter just found out she has two gallbladders and they both have gallstones in them. Could she ( our daughter who is 25) have a hereditary problem and what should we look out for in the future. ( This is very painful for her.)
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Gallbladder stones or as we name it cholelithiasis has many etiologies, depending on type of gallstone. For example, cholesterol gallstones have 25% hereditary possibility. You should check with your family physician type of gallstone. Also, she must have an evaluation from a hepatologist to see if she has intrahepatic biliary problems and an endocrinologist consult to exclude any other disorder like metabolic syndrome.
Hope my answer was helpful to you!
Best regards!
