Is Getting Periods After Implanon Contraceptive Implant Normal?

hi.. i am 10 months into having the implanon contraceptive implant and i have started having periods, whereas i didnt have them before, is this normal? also i have noticed i have an very high base heart rate of 103 beats a minute, tired quite often and headaches frequently.

hi implanon is a progestrone containing implant and many patients experience irregular periods with progestrone containing devices so it's not a matter of concern that you were not menstruating and have started to menstruate now . it will have no effect on its contraceptive efficacy . your symptoms of headache and tiredness is also systemic side effects of the hormone progestrone . if the discomfort of these side effects becomes unbearable you may have to get the device removed. if you can deal with it you can take tab acetaminophen for headaches once a while. all the best take care.
