Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had braces for about 6 months now (had them since June 19) and I didn't realize it until my sister and my grandmother stated that it looked as if my teeth were uneven and that my gums were "taking over" some of my teeth. I am 21 and I had NC Medicaid which covered a full treatment but I was trying to figure out if an orthodontist could perform a gingivectomy because when I eventually get my braces off I don't want a gummy smile. I'm just very nervous because I don't know what NC Medicaid covers as far as gum removal as far as if it's already covered in my 24 month procedure.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Gingival enlargement during orthodontic treatment is a common problem. It is due to lack of plaque control during orthodontic treatment. Brackets interfere with cleaning of teeth & cause retention of plaque on tooth surface & causes gingival problems. Therefore emphasis is given to regular cleaning of teeth & plaque control during Orthodontic treatment. Most cases of gingival enlargement heals with regular scaling & polishing. In moderate cases curretage is required. Gingivectomy is required only in severe cases.
Refer to your orthodontist Don't worry you would be okkay Hope thus information helps
