Is Giving Ciprodex Advisable For Ruptured Ear Drum?
my son is three years old, 31 pounds and 91 inches tall. his ear drum ruptured a few nights ago and the pediatrician prescribed ciprodex, but he is screaming in pain as soon as we put even one drop in. I warmed the drops but it did not ease his discomfort. There was not a confirmed ear infection because it seems most likely it burst from the inside out through blocked eustachian tubes. Seeking advice what to do next since the ciprodex is causing so much pain.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of ruptured eardrum and doctor prescribed you. Well Ciprodex sometimes is known to cause side effects like ear congestion and ear discomfort. You should avoid giving it to child. Need not to worry. Avoid touching or pricking ear with any sharp object. Put otogesic ear drops. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper evaluation of the condition and rule out condition like ear infection and eustachian tube dysfunction . Doctor may alter the dose or prescribe some substitute . For now apply dry warm compresses on external ear .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
