General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it is safe if given along with Paracetamol to reduce the body temperature.
Both Ponstan (Mefenamic acid) & Ibuprofen are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The recommended maximum number of medicines in the 'nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories' category to be taken concurrently is usually ONE.
In children the safest drug to reduce the raised body temperature is Paracetamol, however if fever is not reduced with the use of Paracetamol then Ponstan can be given alternatively.
Ponstan can cause stomach acidity, stomach ulcer, abdominal pain, bleeding tendency, and on prolonged use may injure the kidneys as well. Given along Ibuprofen these side effects will be exaggerated hence should not be used together.
Along with these medications your son also need to be given drugs like Phenobarbitone or Benzodiazepines like Clobazam to control the seizures.
Hope this answers your query.
