Is Hairloss A Side Effect Of Oracea Intake?

I have been losing my hair at a very rapid rate recently. My doctor ran all kinds of blood work, which came back fine. The only thing I can think of is I ve started taking Oracea. Can this cause hairloss? I also take synthroid. My other question is will it grow back if I quit taking it?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you are taking medicine like Oracea and synthroid and facing hair loss . Well Oracea (doxycycline) is used to treat blemishes, bumps, and acne like lesions caused by rosacea in adults. It works by reducing skin inflammation caused by rosacea and it is not known to cause hair loss effects . While Synthroid (levothyroxine) is a replacement for a hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland to regulate the body's energy and metabolism. Levothyroxine is given when the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own and this drug known to cause hair loss like symptoms , but very rarely . I would suggest you to consult your doctor who prescribed synthroid and discuss the probelm with him/her . Doctor may alter the dose or prescribe some substitute . Also consult dermatologist to rule out other causes like hormonal changes , scalp infection , stress or malnutrition .
