Is Half A Saphris Tablet Effective In The Treatment Of Insomnia?

I am on Saphris for my insomnia. My psychiatrist just started me on it about 2 nights ago. It is making me groggy in the morning and I sleep for 12-14 hrs./night. As I am so grateful to finally able to sleep, I don t like the grogginess in the AM. Is it possible to cut the tablet in half and keep the other half in the foil packet until the following night?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Saphris contains 'asenapine,' which is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. Recommended dose of Saphris is 5 to 10 mg sublingually twice a day. Maximum dose is 10 mg sublingually twice a day. Since it is a sublingual preparation, you cannot split the tablet and take one half while keeping other half back. You can go in for lesser dose of 2.5 mg instead of 5 mg tablet, which will reduce the dose into half.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
