Is Hand, Foot And Mouth Disease Contagious In Nature?

I babysit a toddler that was diaganosed with hands, foot and mouth on Friday. She had a fever on Wednesday and a rash on Thursday. Currently no fever but is now showing signs of sores in her mouth. Am I correct to believe she is still contagious since it is still spreading?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is contagious. Nothing to worry as it is a self-limiting condition and settle in a few days. If she is febrile give paracetamol syrup. No other treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
