Is Hand Mouth And Foot Disease Contagious?

My coworker s daughter had hand mouth and foot disease about 2 weeks ago. My coworker does not have the best hygiene and now I m not feeling well. Is it possible she is a carrier and past it to me? I train her daily in an office atmosphere. I know for a fact that she rarely covers her mouth when she sneezes and honestly I never gave it a thought until my mouth started hurting today.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Generally, a person with hand, foot, and mouth disease is most contagious during the first week of illness. People can sometimes be contagious for days or weeks after symptoms go away.

Some people, especially adults, may become infected and not develop any symptoms, but they can still spread the virus to others.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
