Is Having Bleeding, Placenta Abruption During 15 Weeks Of Pregnancy A Big Risk?
Hi Doctor, I am 18 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins and at 15 weeks had a minor placenta abruption with two episodes of heavy bleeding. In both occasions bleeding stopped after 24 hours. I have been experiencing brown spotting since then. I was advised to take it easy but was given no medication. Further ultrasounds have shown that there is still some blood close to the placenta but it looks old blood. Is this common and is it a big risk for this pregnancy? Will it happen again? Should I be worried? thank you.
Hi, Thanks for the query. Sometimes subchorionic hemorrhage can be seen in early pregnancy. But it usually gets absorbed with passage of time. As ultrasound after the bleeding episode shown live featuses, no need to worry. Possibly the collected blood will get absorbed soon. Follow with regular antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations. Better to be careful in future. Be in rest as much as possible. Avoid journeys, intercourse etc. If your doctor recommends go for progesterone tablets to prevent premature uterine contractions. In case of Rh negativeblood group you may need anti D immunoglobulins injection. Take care.
