Is Having Cyst On The Upper Pole Of Kidney Dangerous?

I had a CT scan a couple of weeks ago because of pain in my vaginal area. I had already had a pap/pelvic exam and ultrasound of the vagina. Everything was fine with that. I have an appointment with my family doctor on Monday. On my patient records online, my CT scan showed everything fine except that I have a 9mm cyst on the upper pole of my right kidney. I know I will find out about this Monday but am getting a little anxious about this. Is this serious?

Hello,

A 9 mm cyst in upper pole of kidney needs to be followed up for any possible change. The cyst an increase in size, undergo changes, cause hematuria etc. In such instances, surgical excision may be required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
