Is Having Dry Cough In A Low Lying Placenta Pregnancy Harmful?
I m 19 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Jan 8th anomaly scan done and doctor said its partially low lying placenta. Its my 3 rd pregnancy. In my first pregnancy doctor advice me to take rest dnt take any weights and no traveling. Finally I gave vaginal birth. For second baby I gave birth 20 days early from delivery date. Both babies were full term. Now I m having dry cough and having stomach pain and some times I feel pressure in vaginal area and small pain at buttocks and thighs. Stomach pain will be there for long hours ddue to coughing. Doctor told me, not to take childs. But both children sometimes cry to take and I will. One is 3 3/4 & other is 1 3/4. Will cough affect placenta. Will placenta go lower. I feel light headed most of time. Low blood pressure.Thank you
Since you are diagnosed with low lying placenta & have cough, you are suggested to gargle with warm saline water 2-3 times a day. You can take a cough suppressant (like Dextromethorphan) after consultation with your treating gynecologist. It is considered safe for pregnancy. Do not take it for prolonged period. Take limited dose for relieve. Cough will not affect placenta but when you cough a lot of pressure goes to the bladder and uterus, and may cause bleeding (due to low lying placenta). Stay at rest, do not do any heavy work. Avoid sexual intercourse, do not douch the vagina or use rectal suppositories to stay safe.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
