Is Headache A Side Effect Of SMZ-TMP 800-160?

I have been taking SMZ-TMP 800-160 once a day for about fifteen days still have another fifteen to go. In the last week I have developed a major headache that just doesn t want to go away. Could that be side effect of this medicine ? For an inner/ middle ear problem.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Headache or fatigue can occur as a side effect of SMZ-TMP. Headache is a rare complication. In some patients, electrolyte imbalance can also be the cause of such headaches. Hence, I would suggest you to check your serum electrolytes like sodium, potassium. Any deficiencies should be corrected. When symptoms persist for many days, I would suggest you to stop the drug and switch to other antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
