Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 66 years old and have enjoyed distance running since I was 18 years old. My resting heart rate has been tracked between 40 - 43 beats per minute until recently. Approximately two weeks ago, my resting heart rate started increasing almost daily. Today it was measured at 68 beats per minute. Should I be alarmed?
No, you should not get alarmed. Your bpm of 68 is perfectly normal, there is nothing to get worried unnecessarily.
Great you are enjoying distance running. However, should get a regular cardiac checkup (EKG, Echocardiogram,) to ensure everything is ok with your heart and body.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
General & Family Physician
