Dear sirhc,

Increase in height occurs by long bones growth. There is a cartilage plate located near the end of each bone, that is responsible for new bone formation and thus lengthening.

Once this plate is closed, there will not be further bone growth. This usually occurs around the 18 years of age, but there is of course wide individual variations.

Assessment of the state of this growth plate, known as the "epiphyseal plate" is done by X ray. You may consult your family doctor to asses your individual condition.

Best wishes.
