Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 42 years Indian female, suffering long from multiple gastrointestinal & malnutrition conditions, besides cervical retrolisthesis and joint arthritis. I recently had a bout of stomach infection, blood diarrhoea and gall stone oedema. Present Hb count 6.7 amd my periods are delayed for the first time since menarche. Is it because of sickness or because of peri-menaopausal onset?
If your periods were perfectly regular prior to this illness, then it is more than likely the illness not menopause causing the delay in your period.
Physical illness is one of the common reasons for a delay in period. Other causes are:(1) side effect of medication (2)thyroid disease (3)high levels of a hormone called prolactin (4)polycystic ovarian syndrome (5)emotional stress or illness
I hope this helps
