Is a haemoglobin value of 72 dangerous? I had pleural mesothelioma diagnosed in March 2013, and am on my second round of chemo. First was the standard regime in may/june 2013, and this time I am halfway through a gem/ carbo regime. My haemoglobin was around 110 a few months ago but dropped quickly to the mid 80s and only recovered to 92 after two units of RBC on 15 January before dropping back into the 80s. The reduction to 72 was over the last fortnight, and I am having a transfusion of two units of RBC right now. i saw my oncologist yesterday but he only gave me the value today. He could not talk at the time.
