Is Increased Dosage Of Esperal Advisable For An Alcohol Addict?
I am giving espral 250 mg to my husband without his knowledge since a year...he was adducted worstly to alcohol...he felt vomiting so he quit alcohol since a year...but recently though I give him esperal he forcefully drinks...should I increase dosage to 500 mg
I can understand your concern. Esperal should not be combined with alcohol for the well-being of the patient as it blocks the metabolism of alcohol. It produces very unpleasant side effects when combined with alcohol.
It is usually advised that this medicine should not be taken within 12 hours of alcohol consumption and if the medicine is taken for a longer time, for a year in your husband's case, alcohol should not be consumed for 14 days after even stopping the medicine. So there is no chance that you can even think of increasing the dose of the tablet.
In addition, I would advise not to give this medicine to your husband without his knowledge due to its capacity of causing side effects. If he decides to take this medicine on his own to quit drinking, he will have to take care himself not to drink. Please stop giving him Esperal while he is not ready to quit drinking.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
