Is Increased Dosage Of Hydrocodone Advisable For Pain In The Knees And Wrists?

I am taking hydrocodone for arthritic knees, wrists, fingers, etc. for osteoarthritis. I was taking four daily, every for waking hours. I have been detoxing on my own since January and am down to one and one-half tablets daily (upon waking, another 7-8 hours later and one at bedtime) for a total of 1 1/2 daily. The dosage is 10/325. Recently (week or so ago) noticing dosage not effective and wondering if it s my body craving more (very recent) or perhaps incorrect dosage from pharmacy. Imprint on tablet (oblong tablet) reads the number 176. I guess I m wondering if I ve been given wrong dosage? I m determined to completely detox and do not want to increase dosage after nearly six months of successful downgrading efforts! Thank you. Roberta Hill

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain management depends on pain tolerance of the patient & medicine.

If you try to increase your pain tolerance by positive thinking, diverting your mind from pain & supplement it with physiotherapy/massages, fomentation.

You can continue with the present dose. Otherwise, you would have to increase the dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
