Is Increased Dosage Of Prometrium Advisable To Counteract The Effects Of Estrogen?
Hello I have been on prometrium and estrogel since 2008. I take 100mg prometrium at bedtime for 10 days each month, and dab a little bit of estrogel on the inside of my arm every morning to wake me up . I feel perfectly fine and have no night sweats, but doctor says from my blood work he wants to up my dosage to 200mg of prometrium to conteract the effects of estrogen. One tube of estrogel can last me 6 months, as I do not use a full pump each time - only a dab. Should I go ahead and take a larger dose of prometrium? Deborah
As per my clinical experience, the Prometrium contains Progesterone which helps to maintain the uterine lining in various clinical disorders of dysfunctional uterine bleed and others.
However, as you are consuming only part of the estrogen pump, you do not need higher doses of Prometrium to counteract that one.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
