Is Increased Sun Sensitivity A Side Effect Of Adderall?

Is increased sun sensitivity a side effect of Adderall? I m normally sensitive, but since starting this medication I notice it even more so. My doctor said it s a rare side effect, but possible. But I m not finding much on line about Adderall/amphetamines and sun sensitivity. Age 52, height 5 3 , weight 190.

Hi,

While increased sun sensitivity is not a commonly reported side effect of Adderall, it is possible that it could be contributing to your symptoms. As mentioned in the previous search results, many medications can cause photosensitivity reactions, and Adderall is not specifically mentioned as a photosensitizing drug. However, everyone's body reacts differently to medications, and you may be experiencing an unusual reaction.

If you are experiencing increased sun sensitivity since starting Adderall, it is important to take appropriate precautions when spending time in the sun. This includes wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen with a high SPF, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.

It may also be helpful to speak with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and any concerns you may have. Your provider can assess your risk for photosensitivity and may recommend alternative medications or treatment options if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
