I was just seen by my doctor and I have had right flank pain in by mice side to my back. I have ins so it is complicated. I am usually very regular with my bowels and they have change over the last few months. She ran my blood work and it showed up that my amylase is 20 and my red blood cell count is 5.25 with normal white count of 6.8. Hematocrit is also 45.8. My ast is at 31h and alt is 44h. She ran my stools and all normal. She is running test on my liver because it is inflamed. Would this cause back/ flank pain. I occasionally get pain by by mid stomach but I mostly hurt when I am laying down and wake up with this pain on my right side and back. My stools are sometimes yellow or black and there has been pus in it. It has a bad smell. Do you think it could be more than liver problems. Any advise would be great. I have been dizzy and had an allergic reaction to mess she put me on for my I so. My tung was very itch and sore. I was given steroids for that which cleared it up. I am a 34 female and obese. I don't drink so much and I do smoke.

Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , disk disease , pinched nerve in the back , muscle spasm , kidney infection , kidney stones , pancreatitis and inflammatory illnesses of the bowel . Yes liver swelling can also cause flank pain I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper examination . Doctor may refer you to nephrologist for kidney problem or orthopedic surgeon for nerve muscle and disc problem .
