Is Inking The Leg Safe While Having DVT In The Other Leg?

I recently had a DVT in my left leg. I am taking 5mg of eliquis twice a day. I am supposed to get a tattoo tomorrow. Originally I was going to get the tattoo on my left leg but switched it to my right due to the DVT. Is it safe for me to get a tattoo? If so should I switch the location to my back?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at health care magic.

Since you are on eliquis for DVT there is chance for increased bleeding while you get a tattoo.
Usually eliquis therapy last for 3-6 months for DVT.
I recommend that you wait until after (atleast 24 hours) you get off eliquis to get a tattoo.
Once you are off eliquis it is safe to get a tattoo even on your calf. Calg tattoo do not increase DVT risk, unless it do not get infected.

Hope I was able to answer your question.
Please feel free to address any more concerns.
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
