Is It OK To Take Iron Injection During Pregnancy ?
i m 31 week pregnant and my hb is 8.8 i have already taken 16 injections of iron and the doctor has recommended that i should take more as my iron is very low wat do u suggest is it safe to take more injections will it affect the babys skin colour or my liver? i m 23 years old.i m 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby.my iron dropped from 9.1 to 8.4 during the first and secnd trimester.doctor asked me to take 16 iron injections.now my iron level(hb)increasd to 8.8 but the doctor is saying its still very low and that i should take more injections.i m llittle concerend will it affect the baby in any way or my liver.wat do u recommend?

Hi Hina,
Welcome to HCM. First of all you get your haemoglobin tested from a different reliable laboratory. If the Hb is still low, attempt should be made to find out the cause for this low HB level. Another alternative is to get packed cell blood transfusion and oral iron tablets. You will need to do a peripheral blood smear to know the type of anemia. In addition get stool examination done to exclude hook worm infestation, which causes anemia. Wish you a healthy baby.
