After rabies vaccination - questioning Vet's recommendation not to bathe or allow contact with other dogs for TWO WEEKS I had my dog vaccinated against rabies 6 days ago. This is her third vaccination (one at 4 months, one 13 months later, and again after 13 months). The vet indicated that as I was a month late (I should have had her vaccinated after twelve months), I should not allow my dog to come into contact with other dogs for two weeks, and furthermore not to bathe her for two weeks. Can you tell me is there any validity to this recommended treatment? I did question the vet, but the answer was the same – quarantine and no bathing for two weeks because I brought her in a month late. Had the Russian words more easily flowed to me, I would have prodded further, but maybe this is what they learned years ago and they don’t have a real explanation for such recommendation. As I understand the rabies antibodies stay in a dog s system for 5-7+ years after inoculation anyway, so there should be no danger to other dogs or to my dog (beyond the existing hazards of most any immunization). Please comment. Thanks
