Is It Advisable To Remove Cancerous Ovarian Cyst Surgically?
Dear Sir, My ultrasound pelvis report showed a small uterine fibroid on the left uterine wall and a left ovarian cyst measuring 5.9.x 5.7x 4.5 cm likely to be endometriotic cyst. According to the doctor, this kind of cyst is mainly non cancerous, there is up to 7 % of finding a coexisting cancer within the cyst. He has advise me to remove it surgically. Can I have your advise on this? Thank you.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. It is advisable to undergo surgical removal of cyst in ovary and fibroid irrespective of weather they are cancerous or not. However, you may leave it as it is and do a regular follow-up about its status in case it is now asymptomatic. But you need to make sure that it is noncancerous by means of investigations like ultrasound scan, CT scan and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC). Also, you can plan and get it removed at a later date based on the symptoms it is causing or based on its progress. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
