Is It Advisable To Take 100 Mg Of Metoprolol In One Day?

Is 100 mg of Metoprolol too much to take in one day (50 mg every 12 hrs.)? will it make your blood pressure drop too low. Dr. recommended because my niece s pulse rate rate runs from 110 -140. She was diagnosed with over active thyroid & endroconologist cannot see her for 1 month...isn t that dangerous?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Metroprolol is a selective beta-1 blocker. It has mainly effect by reduction of heart rate & has less effect on blood pressure. It is indicated in cases of high heart rate, hyperthyroidism, heart failure, ectopic beats, arrythmias, etc.
Yes taking 100 mg of Metoprolol in one day is advised in some cases. It would have more effect on heart rate, rather than blood pressure. Some reduction of blood pressure would be there also.
I would suggest you to take the medicine as recommended by your doctor. Don't worry she would be fine.

Refer to your endocrinologist

Hope this information helps
