Is It Better To Just Continue With A Small Stream Rather Than Chancing Total Incontinence After Radiation Therapy For Prostate Cancer?
I had radiation therapy for prstate cancer 2 years ago and my psa is down to .6. Now I am having problems with my stream. The urologist wants to enlarge where the scar tissue has occurred. Total incontinence could result. Am I better to just continue with a small stream rather than chancing total incontinence?
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an Urologist,i can understand your anxiety. The small or thin stream is, due to the internal scarring in urinary tube. If you leave it without treatment,it can cause damage to your kidneys. By enlarging your urinary passage, the stream will improve and protect kidneys. Also,it helps prevent, recurrent urinary infections. In case of total incontinence, there're medications and surgical treatments. If you've any doubts, you may send them,as a direct question to me. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
