Is It Due To Depression One Suffers From Headache?

Hi doctor,My son, who is showing the symptoms of depression, negative thoughts, talking about eternal sleep, life in tranquility and currently he has terrible head ache when he concentrate on study or while he is in school. He is studying at 10th standard. What shall i do at present. Please advice me. We are residing at thrissur.

I can understand your concern. He is showing the symptoms like negative thoughts, talking about death, severe headache, poor concentration etc. These symptoms suggest depressive disorder so need proper evaluation. He is very young and at this age any significant stressor should be find out that is possibly aggravating the symptoms. Visit a psychiatrist for help.

Medicines like SSRIs are used commonly in depression. Fluoxetine is approved drug for depression in children. The drug is safe to use and will help him to come out of depression. Apart from medicines also consult a psychologist and ask for counselling and cognitive therapy which can help to resolve any conflict. Visit a doctor for prescription of these medicines.
