Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has been on Strattera for about 2 months (80 mg). He takes it in the morning and must take it with food or it makes him sick. My questions are; if he takes it before bed does it change any of the effectiveness? Will he get sick since he s not eating before bedtime? Will it cause him sleeplessness? Thank you so much!!!!
Stattera is commonly prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Its common side effects include insomnia (sleeplessness) constipation, insomnia, decreased appetite, and dry mouth. Since it can cause insomnia it is best taken once a day in the morning otherwise it may be taken as evenly divided doses in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. Its efficacy will not be affected if taken before bed. If he does not take food before bed he may get weakness.
STRATTERA is usually taken one or two times a day (early morning and late afternoon/early evening). If you find that you are sleepy during the day or have trouble sleeping at night, talk to your doctor about the best time to take your medicine.
Some people get drowsy from it and some people feel jittery and have insomnia and some people don't have any noticeable side effects. Try the morning and see how he does then adjust from there if needed.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
