Is It Necessary To Get X-ray For The Bruise Above The Buttock Got After The Fall?

I fell off of a ladder five days ago onto the cement driveway. (second rung) Landed on butt, then head--straight back. Both hurt (of course) and lower back was really sore and felt swollen above buttocks. Still hurts today--and I looked in mirror and I have huge butterfly shaped bruise above buttocks with a black bruise right at the top of butt crack. I have a fairly active job, and although I ve been taking it a little easy, been able to do everything with mild to moderate pain. Husband says I should get it x rayed--should I?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

There is no harm in getting the x ray. It is of course not going to help you in the healing of the bruise. But we can definitely make out if the is a bony injury which may probably be the cause of the continued pain.

Sometimes a fractured bone gets impacted, so it does not cause too much pain. And therefore is often missed till late unless x rayed

However I would suggest you meet an orthopedics doc first so that he can examine you first and suggest the type of x ray accordingly

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further. Best of luck.
