Is It Necessary To Have Plavix Everyday Post Surgery On Neck Vein?
one month ago i had a vein in my neck operated on , put on plavix and asprin daily. have had bad bruseing and been very very weak since then. my doctor said to stay on this routine, but i cant even stand long enough to wash dishes, so i skipped the plavix today and within a few hours i was able to cook dinner and even looked better according to my partner. is it ok if i take plavix every other day instead of daily ? i have never had a stroke or heart attack and just this one blockage which was cleaned. please help me.
Hi, Was it a Carotid plaque/ stenosis surgery you underwent? If yes, then it would be safer to continue Plavix for at least three months after surgery. You can stop thereafter and continue only on Aspirin provided your heart arteries are alright. This should be clarified by your Cardiologist. If there are no cardiac issues then you can stop Plavix after three months of surgery. If you feel crippled by Plavix there are other options like Ticlopidine but you should discuss it with your Surgeon before changing over. Take care and feel free to ask further queries by asking a Direct/ Specialist query. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
