Is It Necessary To Take Betnesol During Pregnancy?

Hello Doctor, my wife is 34 weeks pregnant. On a regular visit to the gynaecologist today, she did a PV. On doing that she inserted two fingers in the os and rolled it from side to side. The process was very painful and there was some blood loss. The doctor said it was done to assist my wife for a normal delivery. She also said that the head of foetus is a bit low and told us to come back if there is any pain, fluid leakage or bleeding, or else report after two days. She also prescribed a dose of betnesol inj. My doubt is : 1) what could probably be the procedure she did while doing PV? 2) Is it necessary to take betnesol inj since my wife is 34 weeks pregnant Expecting your prompt reply, Balaraj S, Kerala,

Hi,
I understand your concern.
The procedure your doctor performed while doing pv examination seems to be separation of membranes. This many a times induces labor pains. It is done in case doctor thinks labor to be induced- In your case she might have observed some signs while fetal check up-which called for early birth of a child.
Inj Betnasol must have been given to support fetus while the birth process starts. Please follow advice given.
Thanks.
