Is It Necessary To Take Rabies Vaccination After A Dog S Bite?

9 months ago I was bitten by a stray dog in my lower left leg. The dog did not appear to be rabid so I quickly just cleaned the wound as recommended (soap+warm water, rubbing alcohol, bandages) and went my away. Now that 9 months have passed, I have recently gotten a little paranoid about Rabies. Is it necessary I take a shot ? I read that it can take a year for the virus to incubate, and since I was bitten on my leg, and the fact that I m a very big guy (6 6 , 210lbs) I take it that there s still a possibility that it can happen. Should I take the shot or am I safe. Pls respond.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The vaccine has different doses. The initial dose is given on the first day.

Since 9 months have passed since the bite, it would not make any sense being immunized against that bite now but if you want to take the vaccine in the event of future bites you can do this.

The incubation period of rabies can extend to a year but in the majority of cases, it may be 1 to 3 months.

I hope this helps
