Is It Normal For Accessory Navicular Bone To Swell And Be Painful A Year After Surgery ?

I had accessory navicular surgery in October of last year so it s been just over three months now. I m walking without crutches but it is still really painful. My accessory navicular bone seems to be swelling. I have to ice it every night. Is this normal? I have orthortics in my shoes but when I walk long distances, its extremely painful....please help.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For this type of surgery, it is normal to have swelling until 1 year after surgery until the blood circulation is restored again.

I would suggest you to be patient and keep on by using ice every night and elevation of the leg with pillow. This is a normal situation.

Wish you quick recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Edvin SelmanI
