Is It Normal For Hernia Related Surgical Incisions To Harden? Will It Soften Over Time?
hello.whats up doc. I have had two hernia surgerys one on the left groin a liproscopic and one on the right groin a half inch incision my question is for the one on the right I just had it done sep 30 2013. does the incision sight suppose to be hard?and will the site soften?
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. Initially when a scar tissue forms at an incision site, little bit of induration or hardness is normal. As the scar tissue matures, induration decreases and scar softens a bit. But if your scar is itchy or is quite raised above the surface, its known as hypertrophic scarring. Hypertrophic scarring is due to overproliferation of collagen bundles in scar tissue. It is treated by use of silicone gel sheets and intralesional steroid injections. Hope this helped. Take care
