Is It Normal For One Diagnosed With Strep Throat To Have Swollen Gums And Lack Of Taste With Mild Fever ?
hi my stepdaughter is 10 yrs old has been dignosed with strep throat on monday. She has a low grade fever and has been taking antibiotics its now thursday and her gums are swelling on the right side of her mouth and she says food taste bad and thats the reason she won t eat much, she s drinking and has tylenol for the fever, is there something else going on ?
Dear Sir/Madam I am sorry to hear that your step daughter is ill with sore throat. Strepto coccus infection should be treated with antibiotics as soon as the diagnosis is done and your doctor has done excellent job. The medications she is taking are all ok.It takes few days for the antibiotics to work. Mouth care is very imoptant while she is ill and I would advise to encourage her to use mouth wash two to three times daily.Make sure she takes adequate fluids. Streptococcus infections in the past caused complications affeting the heart and used to called rheumatic fever but that problem almost gone. I do not feel any other problem is there, but I strongly advise to contact your Doctor if you are worried. I wish her complete and speedy recovery. Kindest regards.
