Is It Normal To Experience Frequent Urination After Taking Prednisone ?

I took prednisone for a few days for bronchitis. I m no longer taking it. I am now frequently urinating, and I m very weak and listless. I m thinking that maybe I need electrolytes. Your thoughts? I can t get anything done because I want to sleep all the time.

Hello,

Prednisone must not be stopped abruptly or suddenly. It must be tapered slowly. If stopped suddenly, symptoms that may appear are severe fatigue, weakness, body aches, joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite, lightheadedness, irritability or mood swings.

Frequent urination may be due to diabetes mellitus. Prednisone can I crease your susceptibility to diabetes mellitus. To those patients who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, I recommend fasting and post prandial sugars, Hba1c levels, and serum cortisol levels.
Please do consult a physician to find out the cause of frequent urination and appropriate treatment. Prednisone withdrawal symptoms would subside slowly.
